FUTURE FOUNDATIONS & WLCI PRESENT
The third annual Global Social Leaders (GSL) Festival took place online on Friday 17th June. Future Foundations and the Wellington Leadership and Coaching Institute launched the festival in 2020, at the state of the United Nations SDG Decade of Action.
The GSL Festival is a celebration of youth voice and youth-led action, shining a spotlight on the 1700+ young people running projects in 64 countries as part of the GSL Global Goals Competition 2021-22.
Hundreds of young people, teachers, educators and leaders joined us to create, collaborate and connect through an exciting programme featuring interactive sessions, a panel event, guest speakers and the announcement of the finalists and winner of this years’ GSL Global Goals Competition.
What continues to be a globally challenging time, two years into the Decade of Action, we will focus on how we can continue to build back better and work together to create social harmony.

Youth Connection Session: Global Classroom
An opportunity for individuals and teams in the GSL Global Goals Competition to connect with each other during a fun and interactive session, led by Jakub and Alice from GSL. Hear directly from teams as they share their successes, challenges, and plans for the future. This session is for young people only.
Educator Connection Session: How can GSL support your school’s inclusion strategy?
Hosted by Katy Granville-Chapman, Claire Olivier from Swiss International School in Qatar will lead a discussion focused on the question: How can GSL support your school’s inclusion strategy? Key learnings and takeaways will be shared following the event. This session is for teachers and educators only.

GSL and The LEGO Foundation will host this spotlight session, featuring teachers and a panel of students who took part in the GSL Playful Learning Catalyst programme in April this year. They will share their experience and explore how we can support youth to be advocates of playful learning.

DR. ADEYINKA ADEWALE
Dr. Adeyinka Adewale is a management educator, consultant and social innovator. He is the current Deputy Director of Studies in the department of Leadership Organisations and Behaviour at the Henley Business School, United Kingdom where he is also an Associate Professor of Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Ethics. Adeyinka is the CEO of Thrace Advisory, a service firm committed to making social and economic impact through research, advisory, coaching and training. He is also the founder of the Africa Social Innovators Network, a network of social innovators building Africa-focussed solutions from around the globe. He serves on the board of exciting start-ups and charities in Africa and Europe, through which he affirms his dedication to contributing his expertise to Africa’s development.
KEYNOTE SYNOPSIS
Superheroes without Capes
As the world tackles several wicked problems, to whom do we look for solutions? This keynote looks to celebrate the courage and desire of the younger generation to build solutions to secure our collective future. It will inspire them towards the realisation that in the real world, they are indeed the superheroes only without capes. It will reinforce a strong message of hope that in their own ways, in the seemingly little things being done today, they are responding to a global clarion call in ways only Superheroes can.

CMath (from its full name “Communauté Mathématique”) is a non-profit organization whose aim is to promote mathematics and science education in Burkina Faso by giving chances for quality education to all. Their goals in organizing the first National Math Olympiad of their country include addressing the problem of gender stigmatization in STEM fields and creating a broader universal acceptance of scientific disciplines in their community.

Adira is a youth – empowered Non Profitable Organization fighting to end period poverty and taboo across Globe through service and awareness camps. Our mission is to reach every single women and girls and help them by educating about menstrual health and hygiene and providing them sanitary products. We reach out underprivileged girls and women and educate them about menstrual health and provide them access to sanitary products. Millions of girls drop out of school when they start menstruating, but now they won’t! We have already reached out 5000+ women and young girls and distributed 73000+ sanitary products.

Over the course of two days, participants (students and teachers) will experience a mixture of inspirational speakers, a showcase of international student-led projects and interactive workshops to develop the confidence, leadership and global understanding that promotes social harmony.
We will be celebrating the effort and dedication of the 500 project teams that form this year’s Global Goals Competition cohort in over 105 countries and announcing a winner.
Following the Festival participants will be challenged to THINK GLOBAL and START a LOCAL project that addresses one or more of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The SDGs are “the biggest attempt in the history of the human race to make the world a better place” and run across countries, religions, politics, conflicts, and generations.
