COURSE INFORMATION

What will students learn?

Each day of the virtual course is focused on a distinct theme:

  1. Transformational Leadership – students will build on their leadership skills, focusing on how to influence change as a leader and build a supportive community around them. They will learn about collective wellbeing and how to prioritise their health when working on their project.
  2. The Impact of Social Action – students will learn how to assess need, how to measure impact effectively using an impact roadmap, the power of storytelling to raise awareness, and key reflection techniques.
  3. Leading with a Plan – students are reintroduced to the independent challenge, begin in-depth project planning, learn community building approaches and reflect on their learnings and highlights from the three days.

During the independent challenge students will:

  • Plan and implement impactful social action projects
  • Work collaboratively to create change
  • Lead in co-designing inclusive spaces
  • Communicate effectively and translate thoughts confidently
  • Use creative problem-solving techniques
  • Manage time and tasks effectively

Will students be assessed?

Students will not be assessed but will be required to submit a summary of their independent challenge, alongside any relevant evidence including pictures, written reflections and/or a creative piece to showcase their GSL journey.

Will students receive a certificate?

Students will be awarded with e-certificates following the virtual graduation event.

How will students be taught?

The course is taught via live virtual sessions using Zoom.

Content is delivered in English by an experienced team of facilitators/coaches. We ask that all students are confident in their level of English language, and suggest a CEFR level (Common European Framework of Reference) of B2 or above (C1/ C2) to join this course.

The sessions are interactive, and students are expected to actively participate using cameras and microphones.

There are two time zone options for the three-day course. Students will be asked to select one option for all three days upon registration. The options are:

  • 08:00-11:45 or 15:00-18:45 UK time

How will students be kept safe online?

Students safety is taken seriously and we want to ensure everyone has a great experience. Everyone will be required to read and sign a Code of Conduct before the course begins. We want all young people to be able to engage in a safe and respectful space.

What equipment will students need?

  • Access to a laptop or PC with internet connection
  • A headset, or speakers and a microphone
  • A webcam
  • A notepad and pen
