The last GSL spotlight of the year comes from an awesome technology company focused on sustainability, called OnePlanet. They offer an amazing online platform which we are really excited to share with you (their student portfolio may be of great use to some of you dedicated Global Social Leaders!) If you want to get in touch with the team over at OnePlanet, their social media channels are at the bottom of this article. Happy reading!
OnePlanet.Student is a product of OnePlanet which is a technology company that helps organisations build their sustainable plans in a visually engaging way through the use of mindmaps.
OnePlanet has developed from the OnePlanet Living Principles which are 10 easy to grasp principles co-created by Bioregional and the WWF and were also a backbone to the UN SDGs.
How did OnePlanet.Student start? What is the story behind this initiative?
OnePlanet.Student started when OnePlanet realised that everyone is able to do their bit for sustainability by doing the things they love but in a way that is good for the planet. This is very important for students to realise because it means they can continue studying the topics of their choice and still bring sustainable elements into it.
OnePlanet believes that to solve the climate crisis we all need to work together and see the interconnectedness in what we do everyday to the planet and its impact.
Why should students get involved?
OnePlanet Student Portfolio is a place where you can collect and showcase all your world-saving work in one place. Think of it as a resume for those of you who want to make BIG changes in the world!
You can upload any type of work, for example, essays, poems, presentations, workshops, videos, volunteer work, activism events, etc – all this will appear on your portfolio timeline.
Some students who submitted their OnePlanet portfolios along with their college applications have received between $8,000 and $15,000 scholarships towards their tuition.
How to become a OnePlanet Scholar and Ambassador?
To become a OnePlanet Scholar you will need to submit a minimum of 10 pieces of work, one for each principle, into your portfolio and complete the final reflection summary.
With this complete you can use your unique link to request review for your OnePlanet Scholar certification which will be emailed to you.
Once you have a OnePlanet Scholar Certificate you can work towards becoming a OnePlanet Ambassador. Ambassadors have an ever growing portfolio with a minimum of 30 submissions and 200 hours of volunteer work. They mentor others to start their OnePlanet journey, showcase their portfolios publicly and are often asked to speak about their OnePlanet work. Ambassadors are true movers, shakers and change makers in their communities!
