Poverty and How can we prevent it?

We are delighted to share a blog written by student Ayan Ali, from Roots Millennium School, Bahria Town, Karachi who are part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2020-21 GSL Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community.

I really enjoyed doing this and writing the blog, thanks!

Project Summary

There are many poor people suffering from poverty in Bahria Town and we need to reduce that number of people as much as we can! As you know, there are a lot of poor people that need help, so our idea was to develop an institute that gives away healthy food to the people in need and provide them good shelter. We can also provide them jobs like gardening or cooking, depending on their skill. This will help get them a source of income and they could then fulfill their needs. Providing shelter is the hard part, but what we decided is that we can give them a loan, and when they get a job, they can pay us back.

Our Journey

I have mostly developed much better typing skills and grammar participating in this competition. I also have learned much about helping people. I got inspired by my mother when she donates to orphans and poor people, so it got me thinking, what can I do? I decided to come up with an idea at least and follow it when I get older to make it happen. So this is the start of me getting ideas to help the people who need it and reduce the number of people suffering from poverty in Bahria Town. Another reason why I wanted to participate, was to put my typing skills and my ideas to use.

Our Next Chapter

I really really suggest others older then me or younger then me to get into helping others – you will not regret it and feel really good once you actually do it!
Just help out people in anyway you can and you will get a lot of respect for yourself. It was my dream to help people and whenever I have the chance I would help anyone in need. I will continue this as I get older and help others as much as possible 😀

The 2020-21 GSL Global Goals Competition is now open and runs until June 2021. If you belong to one of the 500+ teams of students currently delivering a social action project as part of the competition we would love to hear from you and feature your blog and project photos on our website to inspire others.
