HER VOİCE MATTERS

We are delighted to share a blog written by students from the team Her Voice, from Burçak Eyüboğlu Fen ve Teknoloji Lisesi School, delivering a Global Goals project for the 2020-21 GSL Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community.

We have realized that equality within men and women can only be made if individuals are aware of it.

Project Summary

We started this project because we realized that people know feminism wrong and some of them don’t respect women rights. So, we wanted people to learn what real feminism is. We attended this competition to show people that both genders are equal. We want both genders to have equal rights. We want women to raise their voices and talk without hesitation. We tried to create awareness in as many people as we could reach.

We sent some online forms to students in our school to learn what they think about feminism and gender equality. We had a meeting with Mor Çatı Vakfı and learned more about what is their purpose, how can they contact with women in need and etc. We made videos about the news on violence against women and gender equality and shared it on our social media account. When we did this, we learned more about thoughts towards gender equality and what we will face. Now, we are planning to be more active on social media and make more forms to ask people’s thoughts. We plan to reach women with different social status and have different social environments. (For example a woman who grew up in a small town from the countryside…) And we want to know how does the difference within education level, financial status or cultures can affect a woman’s life, the way she thinks, her psychology…

Our Journey

While we are working for this project we are also developing a lot of skills. For example, we have seen that our social, investigative, and considering skills have developed a lot. We learned that, by being together and supporting each other, we can make a lot of improvements. Our biggest challenge is not getting any attention by people, not being taken seriously. This is a big issue because our project depends on this. We think that by talking to people about this topic and improving our social media we can solve this problem. Also because of the pandemic, we didn’t have the chance to physically do our meetings and personally visit the organizations about women.

Our Next Chapter

We will continue to advocate gender equality and inform people about this subject as much as we can. We will do our best to make women’s voices in our society. We would definitely recommend other people in our age to get involved in similar projects like ours. Projects like this will help people develop new skills and learn a lot of new information. We would really recommend other people in our age to get involved in similar projects. Everyone can achieve their goals if they work with a plan and as a team.

The 2020-21 GSL Global Goals Competition is now open and runs until June 2021. If you belong to one of the 500+ teams of students currently delivering a social action project as part of the competition we would love to hear from you and feature your blog and project photos on our website to inspire others.
