GLOBAL SOCIAL LEADERS At the Festival of Education

Wellington College | 20th June 2019 | 09:30 to 16:00

What is the the GSL Festival?

The GSL Festival is a day of inspiration that celebrates youth voice and gives young people (and their teachers) the tools to create transformational social change.

Over the course of the day participants (students and teachers) will experience a mixture of inspirational speakers, a showcase of international student-led projects and interactive workshops to develop the confidence, leadership and global understanding.

This year the Festival is delighted to host a strand dedicated to the Global Social Leaders movement. This is run by the Wellington Leadership Institute and youth training organisation Future Foundations. Taking place on Day One of the festival the strand aims to provide a stage dedicated to the role ‘youth voice’ and ‘social action’ plays within our schools and communities, and the role this plays in preparing young people for the future.

The programme will feature panel discussions between educators, industry experts and young people on topical issues such the role of a school and its teachers in supporting young people to be active citizens in the wake of ‘The Greta effect’. There will be a keynote talk chaired by Wellington students with Andrew Strauss OBE, on resilience.

The event will shine a light on the achievement of this years’ Global Goals Competition cohort who are leading GSL projects in over 400 schools and 80 countries around the world.

Following the Festival participants will be challenged to THINK GLOBAL and START a LOCAL project that addresses one or more of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The SDGs are “the biggest attempt in the history of the human race to make the world a better place” and run across countries, religions, politics, conflicts, and generations.

We look forward to celebrating with you all and welcoming you to join the Global Social Leaders movement.
