Adopt A Lake

We are delighted to share a blog written by Sahitya Inuganti, a student at Drs International School who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2019-20 Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community.

Life is like a lake love it and it loves you back

Project Overview

Taking the serious state of our lakes in Hyderabad and surrounding cities we realize the public does not recognize the damage they cause by dumping waste in these water bodies. We want to bring awareness about the pathetic condition of rivers and lakes and prevent people from dumping waste into the water bodies.

Did you know Hyderabad had 7000 lakes?  Out of 7000 lakes Hyderabad has now only 70 remaining lakes at present.  Soon most of the city lakes may vanish due to global warming and land filling.  You might have to say goodbyes to Hyderabad lakes if you don’t protect the cities’ water bodies. City needs to clean the mini lakes and reservoirs. Never the less problem is not only in reduction of these lakes, these beautiful and essential to life lakes are being dumped with materials from the land’s surface. Consequently debris can move through the soil and end up in the groundwater and land in your drinking water bottles.

Our Journey

Although we are students from commerce background, we enjoy the nature and love to protect the aquatic life. We take pride in standing up for our lakes and speak about it. Make chemical analysis of the water and protest for anti dumping of debris and chemical waste in the lake.

The Next Chapter

Adopt a lake and get involved in saving our lakes our health and our future. The city the water and your health are your rights but if you neglect them, there will be nothing left to enjoy! Saving lakes is a huge task but you can stop dumping waste in the lakes.

The 2019-20 GSL Global Goals Competition is now open and runs until June 2020. If you belong to one of the 700+ teams of students currently delivering a social action project as part of the competition we would love to hear from you and feature your blog and project photos on our website to inspire others.
