We are delighted to share a blog written by student Fernando Cotes from Colegio Bilingue Santa Marta, who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2019-20 Global Goals Competition.
Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community.
Planting trees is breathtaking.
Project Overview
SamaGreenDream began as a social media influence project, that focused on changing the ecological perspective of young people the city of Santa Marta, Colombia… it has slowly but efficiently transitioned on the actions of setting an example before proclaiming to generate any influence. In other words, we decided to work on some content to show people before we actually launch and promote our Instagram account.
Our Journey
For our first big project, we took action and traveled to a small town near Santa Marta called “Bosconia”. Our project consisted of planting a big amount of trees in an area where shade is needed. We took action and planted over 80 trees, generating a huge impact to the citizens of Bosconia, since trees help to upgrade the environment, lower down the temperature and provide a house to a lot of creatures.
The Next Chapter
The next chapter in our project is taking advantage of our video footage from planting the trees and uploading a promotional video into Instagram and getting people to follow us and getting them to continue helping the environment in their daily lives.
The 2019-20 GSL Global Goals Competition is now open and runs until June 2020. If you belong to one of the 700+ teams of students currently delivering a social action project as part of the competition we would love to hear from you and feature your blog and project photos on our website to inspire others.
