Sek Alborán International School

We are delighted to share a blog written by student Candela, from Sek Alborán International School, who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2021-22 GSL Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community!

This experience has been amazing and great for us, because we feel satisfied by helping the children

Project Summary

Firstly, the need we have identified in our local community is the help for children with cancer, to make them be entertained and try to distract them from their routine at the hospital. Moreover, this idea came to our mind because one of our classmates in our school was suffering from this illness and we wanted to make him feel better and delighted in his days at the hospital. Additionally, our plan to carry out our idea of these dynamic games for the children, is to develop a series of recycled games which are easy to make and to follow, for them to play and interact with each other.

Therefore, in this way we will create a happy smile on them, and the children will learn how to create some recycled games and will improve their cooperation skills and we hope they spend a great time while developing the activity.

The Journey

With this project we were aiming to achieve a large variety of objectives. Apart from that, we have benefited from developing this task by acquiring different worth-while skills for our daily life. We have learned how to give seemingly useless things a new purpose in life. For example, a piece of plate was transformed into a game which can contribute with a disadvantaged group of the society.

In addition, we have discovered new aspects of one another which has enabled us to improve our cooperation and teamwork. Furthermore, we acknowledged that with this entrepreneur project there are some issues that ought to be confronted. The number of games that need to be recreated is a case in point. Notwithstanding, some of our biggest challenges have been finding away how to link both objectives pursued, due to the complexity of the second one. In conclusion, this project has a paramount importance to ameliorate the solidarity among the youth.

The Next Chapter

First of all, we want to say that we would recommend this type of project to other students or people due to the skills we have been able to develop throughout its realization just like the empathy or teamwork. In addition, it has given us new knowledge such as being more up to date on the different procedures that exist in recycling, including some materials that in our opinion were unthinkable to reuse and we saw that we were completely wrong. On the other hand, our call to viewers is that with any small action we can get to get the smile of a child.
