We are delighted to share a blog written by student Nicole, from Westside Middle School Academy, who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2021-22 GSL Global Goals Competition.
Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community!
Our experience has been very good, we had our highs and our lows.
Project Summary
Hello, we are EcoToys, and we are from Westside Middle School Academy.
We created this project to inform our community about textile waste and textile recycling. We are also supporting our local animal shelters. The point of our project is to prevent clothes from going into landfills, we want to upcycle clothes and make them for a new purpose. The old clothes are going to be upcycled into dog toys which we are going to donate to our local dog shelter.
The Journey
The skill our group has developed as a result of participating in the GSL Global Goals Competition is knowing how to work together can have a compromise for our ideas. What we learned about ourselves is we can make a big difference in our communities if we have our own determination. We see our biggest challenge to overcome is not having enough material and time to make our goal amount.
The Next Chapter
We would recommend this to other people our age because it works on building friendships, responsibility, team building, and helping your community. We want people to learn about their community and to solve big or small problems in your community to make it a better space to live in.
