Global Social Leaders Launchpad | Kingsley School

On Tuesday the 26th of November Global Social Leaders and Future Foundations delivered a GSL Launchpad at Kingsley School, in Bideford, Devon, of which 43 pupils from years 7, 8 and 9 attended.

The programme formed part of a wider event, as the school also launched their new Earth Centre on this day. The Earth Centre is an educational venue focused on environmental sustainability and climate change – you can find out more about it here.

Jonathan Harper, CEO of Future Foundations, and Tamya Bustamante, skilled youth coach, led the young people through an exciting day of GSL sessions, which concluded with the students developing a “green”/”earth” focused project idea that they were able to submit into the GSL Global Goals Competition.

The GSL Launchpad is a one day programme that aims to develop future leaders, giving young people the chance to engage with ways that they can change the world for the better.

At Kingsley School the Launchpad ran from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Seminars and activities on social action and leadership were held throughout this time, to enable those who attend to leave with the tools they need to set up a meaningful social action project in their schools or local communities.

To end the programme, the students presented their ideas and projects in front of our “Dragon’s Den” panel of judges, to practice their presenting skills and to receive valuable feedback and advice from industry professionals.

Following the Launchpad, the events keynote speaker, Sir Tim Smit KBE (co-founder of the world famous Eden Project) addressed the students, parents and local stakeholders. Then, a presentation was given by Christopher Upton, Chairman of Greene’s Education, Oxford, and Pete Last, Headmaster of Kingsley School, about the Earth Centre.
