Applied Technology High School – AQB Campus

An introvert leader

We are delighted to share a blog written by student Abdullah, from Applied Technology High School – AQB Campus, who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2020-21 GSL Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community!

A journey of learning, having fun, and never regretting.

Project Summary

An application that went through a lot of changes, initially called “EFUAE” but that limits our approach, so we changed it to “SUAE News”, Sustainable UAE News.

A platform where we post news of contributors from various businesses, whether its fashion, food, etc. This application has helped raise awareness of various non sustainable habits that HARM our earth.

Following goals 8, 9, 11, 12, and 13 from the Global Goals, we managed to develop a decent application that serves as a trustworthy symbol for all sustainable retailers and consumers.

The Journey

While participating with my closest friends, we developed communication skills like never before, we started trusting each other to perform a task, never giving up on our ideas, and solving problems that we faced on our journey to develop an application.

With the massive help of our supervisor, Henna Khan, and the motivation of our English teacher, Brian Griggs, we saw a path that was full of learning and amusement.

During the competition I have discovered a medium of laughter and knowledge, I learned that I am an adventurous person. True, I am an introvert and always get anxious around people, but trying new experiences with who understands me and thrives to accomplish a dangerous yet amusing task, is my favourite thing in life.

The Next Chapter

My life is like a book that has infinite pages, with each page (as a size of an A1 paper) a new chapter begins, therefore, I will never settle at one spot, I will keep moving and thriving to find what I call “The Kick”. Making projects, inviting people to experience The Kick with me.

So, yes, believe me when I say, you should try out every single opportunity you get, and if you can’t have it, then you still have the next chapter to complete. I have no slogan, but, (If a door shuts on your face, build a new one).
