In Touch With a Better You

We are delighted to share a blog written by student Yago, from Westside Middle School Academy, who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2021-22 GSL Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community!

This project has been a pleasant experience with subtle difficulties along the way

Project Summary

In Touch With A Better, You is a group informing/helping your mental health and allowing you to focus on yourself. Our goal is to help ensure people are not alone in their problems through Mental Health Awareness. Individuals around the world go through mental turmoil every day. Teenagers and adults face the pressure of the ever-changing world, and it causes people to be overwhelmed, which can have a significant impact on their mental health and well-being.

We describe steps and tips to do if people in our daily lives are going through a rough time, such as reaching out, reassuring them, and being a loyal companion. We are here to help you with what we have learned and seen in our personal lives. We saw a massive increase in Mental Illnesses during the COVID-19 pandemic in our community and worldwide. Our purpose is to aid and support these members of the community. We want to be able to help someone become the best version of themselves and later spread that positivity and awareness to others.

The Journey

In the past few months, our project has progressed in tremendous ways. We have grown together and have learned the importance of participating in group projects. We have worked hard and endlessly have tried and completed our goal of raising awareness of mental health issues and how important it is to the people around us. We have learned that you can help the people around you in many ways. Some of our biggest challenges were figuring out how to help teenage adolescents and raise awareness. We took some time to find one way to help, and as a result, our group went through/brainstormed many ideas.

However, the most challenging part of our project was finding someone willing to help and put in the effort to help us reach our goal. Going through these struggles has helped us grow together and changed how we think of approaching and raising awareness of mental health. By working together as a group and working on achieving one goal in common, we have finally gotten close to achieving our goal.

The Next Chapter

We will expand to our local community outside of school. This will make people feel more connected to their mental health and well-being and feel more comfortable. This is an essential step to having a prosperous community, connecting, and not having people be discriminated against. We also would like to help everyone with their mental health well-being outside of our school.

People should get involved to have a positive impact on our community. Be involved, and you will feel like you have accomplished something. We would also like to expand to all age groups outside of this sol apart from just teenage adolescents.
