For a Better Cause

We are delighted to share a blog written by Laila Zayn Naqshabandi, a student at Arab Schools Jeddah, Saudi Arabia who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2018-19 Global Goals Competition.

Their project ‘For a Better Cause’ is among over 620 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community.

I believe I can say this on behalf of my whole team that we have developed a closer bond with each other and we have achieved the ability to work with all types of people during our journey so far.

A challenging new experience that helps shape ones character.

Project Summary

Our project is targeted towards those who need and are less fortunate than others. There are a wide array of people who need the very basics and necessities of living so we as a group that is participating in this project have thought of a plan to help those in need by gifting them with those simple necessities in a basket such as non perishables, and much more but to acquire these things we would need quite a huge amount of funding so we decided to plan a bake sale at our school in hope to get at least a kick starter of funding so we can start our project. The bake sale will be held on the 24th of this month and after that we will move forward on our project and hopefully make it happen.

Our Journey

I believe I can say this on behalf of my whole team that we have developed a closer bond with each other and we have achieved the ability to work with all types of people during our journey so far. We are hoping to further our communication skills and gain much needed independence as a result of working on this project we are also hoping to get exposed to new things and have our own individual experiences with this project.

The Next Chapter

I would certainly recommend this to anyone who is in my age group, older, or even younger as it is a new experience to have and will give them a sense of what it’s like to work on such a high ranking project and will definitely teach them a few tricks along the way. it will help develop their character and help them with decision making and creativity.

The 2018-19 GSL Global Goals Competition is now open and runs until June 2019. If you belong to one of the 700+ teams of students currently delivering a social action project as part of the competition we would love to hear from you and feature your blog and project photos on our website to inspire others.
