Earth Day Celebrations at GIIS EC

We are delighted to share a blog written by Girish Kumar Thasari, a student at GIIS EC Singapore who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2018-19 Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 800 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community.

Protect the environment for a better future

Project Overview

We the students of GIIS EC have pledged to do our part and save the planet we call home. We have started a project called ‘THE SPECIES’.

Our Journey

Earth day is the day that inspires and brings about awareness and appreciation for the natural environment around us . On 22nd April 2019 our school (GIIS EC ) made a page for ourselves in the Singapore book of world records for forming the largest word with sampling. We used 600 saplings and interpreted the word ‘GIIS EC’ in our school’s large field which has a lot of green areas around it.

The Next Chapter

All the students of our school ,from nursery to grade 7 contributed in making this achievement and supported our school theme “ Happy and Green EC” .

Happy and Green EC aims at emphasizing students to nurture the environment and to create awareness among students on the need to preserve nature .Some of the ideas that have been adopted by the school are ” Best out of Waste”, “Plant a Tree ” on birthdays and the most important one being Herbal Garden , which is an on going initiative by the students of the campus.

The 2018-19 GSL Global Goals Competition is now open and runs until June 2019. If you belong to one of the 700+ teams of students currently delivering a social action project as part of the competition we would love to hear from you and feature your blog and project photos on our website to inspire others.
