Applied Technology high-school Ajman-Girls

CiviClinic

We are delighted to share a blog written by student Hamda, from Applied Technology high-school “Ajman-Girls”, who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2021-22 GSL Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community!

It was a very fun experience and challenging

Project Summary

Over the past two years we have noticed that older people are unable to go to the hospital due to Covid. Our website will help elderly people who have chronic diseases. Moreover, when older people are exposed to COVID-19, they become severely unwell. They may require hospitalization, intensive care, or a ventilator to assist them in breathing, or they may even die from their sickness. People in their 50s are at higher risk than those in their 60s, 70s, and 80s.

We chose GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being because it was related to our project

Civiclinic is a website that allows older people to contact a hospital online and receive assistance without having to travel to the hospital and wait a long time. It also assists them by delivering all of their essential medications to their residence. Furthermore, there are other choices available to them, such as an emergency button, that will assist them in getting to a hospital. Doctors and nurses will also have their own email address to use to log in. When a patient logs in, their information will appear in order of severity of injury to light injury. The first patient, for example, will have a broken bone, the second will have the flu, and the third will require some tests. Rather than going to the hospital, our website will send them a doctor who is familiar with their sickness as well as a nurse to support them. In addition, our website features a section with information about severe conditions like cancer, arthritis, and cystic fibrosis, among others. If any of the patients develop symptoms, they can go to the website’s illnesses section and consult a doctor right away. If necessary, an ambulance will leave the hospital right quickly to transport the patient.

The Journey

Throughout the making of our project, and due to the pandemic and how covid cases has been dramatically increasing, we faced a problem when communicating with one another and that stopped us from working well together and accomplish what we were planning on. Another major issue is that we have been searching for hospitals that might agree on collaborating with us in order for us to achieve our project. However, we still haven’t been able to find a hospital that is willing to work with us and that has made us far behind.

One of the biggest issues we faced was that one of our teammate hasn’t been cooperating with us as she should and that has led to my teammate and I to work twice as hard which has pressured us twice as much. In addition to that, while working on out project, there was a time where we had exams which has stopped us from completing our project and that stopped us from finishing at as early as we expected

The Next Chapter

I would recommend for others to work on similar projects because it helps them develop new skills and gain experience.
