A new way to teach life skills – Sports!

When we looked at our local community, we saw that there were quite a lot of needs that existed. However, the need that really inspired our passion to take on this project was the need of children in the community to have people to train them to develop their skills in football and the need of these children to develop essential and necessary life skills that they needed to become leaders.

We started working with the Bina Yatim dan Dhuafa orphanage almost 4 years ago. When we started we didn’t really know what they needed or how we could help them. We soon figured out, however, that what they really wanted was to learn English and to play games with them, and so that’s what we did.

In our local community, the Iloko community, my team and I have noticed the desperate cry for help from children around us. They want OUT of child labour, child abuse which are technically different and have brought about lack of education, even happiness.

A few steps away from saving our planet

As a team, we have decided to choose the idea of influencing our neighborhood to reduce the amount of plastic used. We have mostly specified in reducing the number of plastic straws used. A few weeks ago, we have placed some new trash bins for the students to start recycling.

Finding The Right Flow

Malaysia is a country blessed with the availability of freshwater resources nationwide. However, certain states like Kelantan and Sabah, for example, have communal areas which are dispatched from the national grid of water. In Gua Musang, an area in Kelantan, 400 community members have had to rely on rainwater which is critically subject to pollution and water-borne diseases. We wrote about this in an extract of our school magazine.
