This is the story of Ghaith. Ghaith was a ten year old boy from Aleppo, Syria. At the age of six, his town was demolished by Syrian forces who bombed the area suspecting the presence of rebels. As they tried to flee, he was forced to witness his little sister’s death, as his own home collapsed over her. He and his family had to leave everything behind and go to a refugee camp at the Syrian-Jordanian border, the Zaatari Camp, where they stayed there for three years during which his father lost a battle to malaria. At the age of nine, he was moved yet again to a town with shared houses for refugees. At around the same time, the ISG Schools District sponsored a trip to the Compassion Summit. We met Ghaith when he was 9 years old in the Compassion Summit. He had an upbeat personality with a lot of hope despite everything he went through. He’d always crack jokes and try to make things funny. He had a huge amount of passion for Football and Art. As part of our project, we attempted to reconnect with Ghaith this year, to have him share his story to the world. We were met with the news that he passed away from fever as his mother couldn’t afford his medicine. Ghaith should’ve been saying these words. Ghaith should’ve been the one sharing his own story.
So having said his story, we vow never to forget his smile, his interests, and his dreams. We stand in solidarity, and in a moment of silence, in the name of Ghaith. #gslgoals

Işıkkent Eğitim Kampüsü olarak son 3 yıldır Birleşmiş Milletler’in sosyal sorumluluk projesi kapsamında ve uluslararası çapta yürütmekte olduğu Global Social Leaders – Küresel Toplum Liderleri programının resmi üyesiyiz. 2030 yılına kadar ulaşılması hedeflenen sürdürülebilir kalkınma hedefleri için ortaokul ve lise öğrencilerimizden oluşan ekipler, evrensel sorunlara sürdürülebilir çözümler bulmak ve harekete geçmek için canla başla çalışıyorlar. Geçtiğimiz dönem gerçekleştirdikleri projeler ile 18 farklı ülkeden, 300’den fazla öğrenci ekibiyle yarıştılar. 2023 Haziran ayının sonunda Future Foundations ve Wellington Leadership Institution tarafından açıklanan sonuçlarda ise;
• Efe Büyükkarcı, Diba Taşkaya, Ela Koçak, Demir Oray, Tuner Aktekin, Yalın Kanlıbaş ve Çınar Ayla’nın üyesi olduğu All Matters ekibimiz 4,10 ve 17 no’lu sürdürülebilir kalkınma hedeflerinden yola çıkarak, dezavantajlı öğrencilerin eğitimde fırsat eşitliğini yakalayabilmesi amacıyla EÇEV ile ortaklaşa gerçekleştirdiği projelerinde 10 hafta boyunca hafta sonları ilkokul öğrencilerine ders verdiler. Bu projeyle ekibimiz ‘Impact Commendation Award’ yani ‘En Etki Bırakan Proje’ ödülünün sahibi oldu.
• Zeynep Başer, Su Yazıcı, Ayşe Kurt, Ela Mccallum, Bade Soybakış ve Berat Arda Akbaş’ın üyesi olduğu Gaia Couture ekibimiz,12 ve 13 no’lu sürdürülebilir kalkınma hedeflerinden yola çıkarak temiz, bakımlı ve iyi durumda olan okul eşyalarının yeni sahipler bulması için hayata geçirdikleri I-Second yani Işıkkent İkinci El Dükkânı projesiyle “Sustainability Commendation Award”, yani “Sürdürülebilirlik Takdir Ödülü” aldılar. Bu arada ikinci el dükkanımız, okulumuzda hizmet vermektedir.
• Marianna Kokkali, Lara Saybaşılı, Melis Itır Kaplan, Yağmur Tavus, Bora Tavus ve İpek Atlı’nın üyesi olduğu Mind the Waste ekibimiz,12 ve 13 no’lu sürdürülebilir kalkınma hedeflerinden yola çıkarak son 3 yıldır okuldaki yemek hazırlıklarından çıkan çiğ ve pişmiş gıda atıklarıyla yıl boyunca bokashi ve bahçe komposto çalışmalarını yürüttüler. The "Cultural Lifters" of Potter's Touch High School, a Global Social Leaders (GSL) #globalgoals competition group embarked on an endeavour titled "Our Food, Our Culture". This project serves as a cultural awareness programme, placing particular emphasis on traditional Bayelsan cuisines (Kekefia with starch and Yellow soup with rice or garri).
The project's inception aligns with the objectives outlined in the unitednations sdgaction theglobalgoals, notably addressing SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 10: Reduced Inequality, SDG 15: Life on Land, and SDG 17: Partnerships to Achieve the Goal.
