We Care – Look Beyond, Reach Beyond

We are delighted to share a blog written by student Jaidev Balaji from Global Indian International School, who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2019-20 Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community.

One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.

Project Overview

I am humbled to be selected for GSL fellowship to champion a cause close to my heart- providing food for the less privileged.

My on the field experience to various organisations like Food from the Heart, Free food for All, Udavum Karangal taught me to value each and every thing we are blessed with. Lots of brain storming made me come to a conclusion where I suggested our group to form a blog (we-care.blog). The most touching experience was a visit to an orphanage which was founded by an orphan with love, passion and patience and each individual was free to follow the religion of their choice with no political interference. It just clicked that we can look beyond and reach beyond as its aptly said, ‘If you can’t feed a hundred, then at least feed one.’ I made up my mind that I will use technology to reach beyond for the betterment of humanity as the earth does not have dearth of intellectuals but it definitely craves for ones with humane touch!

Our Journey

I personally did a PowerPoint presentation and video animation with pre and post surveys to raise awareness in our school community which was a roaring success, I realised that it’s time to encourage more and more people to support such causes, I suggested our team to develop an e- platform where surplus food and needy people can be contacted. The unequivocal support of our team members and their expertise enabled me to sustain and reach out people in different corners of the world. We are diligently working to blaze a trail in this and your suggestions and guidance is of utmost importance to us.

The Next Chapter

I have already made presentations, quiz about GSL sustainable goals in our school, and at various forums in our community and there were many individuals who were inspired to join us. In fact our local community centre supported our food donation drive amidst the fear of Covid-19 which we personally distributed to the needy. I suggested our team to voluntarily involve even our grandparents or elders in our community which will bridge the gap as they need people to hear them and in turn we get experienced caring helping hands. Also technology needs to be harnessed to its best to maximise the benefits to the needy and we stay focused.
