DRS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL |

A Paw-erful Cause!

We are delighted to share a blog written by Rhea Bogarapu, a student at DRS International School who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2019-20 Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community.

Exhilarating, Enlightening & Enriching.

Project Overview

Injured, malnourished and infected dogs; which overcrowd the streets of our city are in dire need of our help. The sight of such pure and friendly creatures out on the roads, frail and infected, struggling for food and water is extremely disheartening. These moments leave behind a whirlpool of emotions and an urge to make an initiative to try and help our canine friends.

In order to tackle the problem we plan to conduct workshops in our localities to raise awareness, health, safety and care for our four pawed friends. We hope our action inspire others to do the same along the way.

We also wish to hold a fundraiser, to collect money to vaccinate street dogs in collaboration with likeminded Non Governmental Organizations. We also wish to donate to a non-profit organization for the same purpose.

Our Journey

With the help of the GSL Global Goals Competition, we have become effective communicators and problem solvers. Our project will allow us to think out of the box and find solutions to key issues in our community. We will nurture feelings of compassion and empathy, along with a need to take initiative and inspire others to do the same.

At the moment, our biggest challenge is finding a source of first aid training for animals. We are currently looking into vets who can offer us this service and hope to obtain it at the earliest. In addition to this, getting our point across during the workshops also seems to be quite challenging but we will strive to overcome this with the help of our newfound skills. All in all, this project has not only proved to be beneficial for our furry friends but our entire team as well.

The Next Chapter

We would definitely recommend others to get involved in our project, as the problem that we’re trying to solve is very real and prominent. We will try and inspire our younger peers to carry on with our project and hopefully scale new heights.

Our project has already provided a sturdy framework for others to build upon. The goals and approaches are very clear hence it will be easy to pick up from the established checkpoints. The main subjects of our efforts; stray animals, are of great interest to a large section of the young and adult population so that task of gaining attention and people to carry the project forward will not be as daunting.

The 2019-20 GSL Global Goals Competition is now open and runs until June 2020. If you belong to one of the 700+ teams of students currently delivering a social action project as part of the competition we would love to hear from you and feature your blog and project photos on our website to inspire others.
