HELP SOLVE OCEAN PLASTIC POLLUTION!

SHIFT CHALLENGES YOU TO FIND YOUR ROLE IN SOLVING OCEAN PLASTIC POLLUTION!

What is eXXpedition?

eXXpedition is a Community Interest Company and not-for-profit organization that runs pioneering all-female sailing research expeditions to investigate the causes of and solutions to ocean plastic pollution.

But the more time we spend out at sea conducting scientific research, the more we realise solutions to ocean plastic pollution are back on land. So on World Oceans Day 2020, eXXpedition co-founder Emily Penn launched the SHiFT Platform, which helps people navigate hundreds of impactful solutions to ocean plastic pollution, finding the ones that are best for them.

The Challenge

There are hundreds of different ways to tackle ocean plastic pollution from sea to source. And we can all be a part of the solution by using our different skills (what we like to call our super powers!) to make a shift and help turn off the tap on plastic waste.

  • STEP 1: HOW DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A SHIFT?

    Think about what skills and interests you have to decide how you want to use your superpowers to make a shift. Select one action you would like to take to help solve ocean plastic pollution.

  • STEP 2: WHAT ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE DO YOU WANT TO SHIFT?

    From daily choices to influencing business and governments, we have the power to create shifts in our own lives and our communities. Select one area you would like to affect through your actions.

  • STEP 3: WHERE DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A SHIFT?

    Starting with cleaning up the oceans, there are hundreds of different ways to tackle plastic pollution. As we work our way upstream, we work towards not just minimising the damage, but also recycling and converting the waste we collect and eliminating plastic altogether. The further to the source we go, the bigger the impact we can make. Choose where you want to create a shift – from sea to source.

  • STEP 4: CHOOSE A SOLUTION THAT FEELS RIGHT FOR YOU

    Explore different solutions and their benefits and challenges until you find the right one for you. If you don’t find any that feel right, start the process again by resetting and selecting different options. Once you have selected one, please answer the following questions:

    • What is your super power?
    • What made you interested in the solution you chose?
    • How does this solution help tackle plastic pollution, in your own words?

  • STEP 5: SUBMIT A SOLUTION

    Now that you’ve been inspired, think about what action you, your family, your school or your favourite organisations could take to help solve plastic pollution. Please submit your solution by 31st August.
