Project Description:
Our aim was mainly to reduce food waste at our school and to increase the number of people who are aware that waste is actually a treasure.
We handled the garden compost as a group, with our school cafeteria collecting appropriate waste from meals for us. Meanwhile, before we started doing bokashi, we held brief interviews with secondary school students and teachers to inform them. At the end of this talk, we encouraged them to start bokashi composting with us and we realized that they were actually curious too.
Towards the end of our project, both of our composts were ready and waiting to be mixed with the soil, enough for the backyard. After mixing them and mortaring the soil, we started planting potatoes, peppers, tomatoes and eggplants. We created our garden, which consists of two parts, at different times. We aimed to ensure that the food we obtain in this way grows in more fertile soil.
Although we have faced many difficulties in the process, we can proudly say that we have created awareness around us, made an impact, reached most of our goals and done a good job in the name of sustainability.
Thanks to Global Social Leaders for providing us with this opportunity.
