Second Chances: Giving CHANCE, Changing LIVES

We are delighted to share a blog written by student Ortwin, from The International School for Better Beginnings, who is part of a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2021-22 GSL Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community!

Despite the challenges and barriers, our team has faced, we have never considered giving up since we have only one goal: to give people a chance and improve their lives.

Project Summary

We are living in a world where diversity is evident. The second chance project aims to enact as an epicentre of moral principles, which means constituents/pioneers are the ones who are responsible or to take account with conveying lots of solutions or ideas that will help us become more unified and intact.

In our local community there is a noticeable tangent of different perspectives or units of thinking that they consider as a moral principle, as a matter of fact revenge is one of the most concrete examples which obtruded the true definition of moral principles. We are at the precipice of making changes and making our community a more understanding and inclusive environment, we are the ones who can encourage and promulgate, but it is up to the citizens if they want to abide or not.

Despite all of these, we remain hopeful that, given enough time, everyone may love, forgive, and live in a world of acceptance.

The Journey

Joining this competition has strengthened our eagerness as a team to continue pursuing our advocacy of uplifting the spirits and morals of the persons deprived of liberty.

We have developed a form of companionship towards each other by providing and coming up with the best possible solutions and ideas that can further enhance our campaign of Second Chances.

As a team, we’ve learned the importance of not giving up on someone based on their past. We are all human beings, anyone can make mistakes, but we should not let those mistakes define an individual for who they would become in the future. As citizens of the community, it is our love, support, and forgiveness that the PDL’s need. The more we look at the bright side of things, the more we can help these people become the best version of themselves. It takes time and a lot of other things for a person to change, and we need to be patient and supportive to achieve all of it.

As a team, we may have difficulties in serving our purpose, such as the fear of not fulfilling our duties, but we will never stop because this is what we are meant to do, this is our moment to show the world that for every chance we give, there will always be change.

The Next Chapter

We have never truly paid attention to those who have been stripped of their liberty over the years. However, at this time, our eyes have been opened and we have gained insight into persons who are deprived of their liberty. As a result, we’re encouraging folks our age to get involved in small initiatives, campaigns, and advocacy efforts like ours.

We now live in a culture where condemning someone based on their past has become the norm. We were deluded into believing that someone who has done wrong can never change. But, as you can see, anyone can change, no matter how bad their history was. They simply lack the affection and support of our generation, the youth.
