Let’s Bring The Change

We are delighted to share a blog written by student Ipsita, from IITians’ Spectrum Edutech, Mumbai, who is part of team That Queer Feminist delivering a Global Goals project for the 2020-21 GSL Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community!

We have evolved in terms of Public-Speaking, learning and understanding other individuals.

Project Summary

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to read about our project. That Queer Feminist is a youth-led project that aims for a community of people who understands the importance of mental health, provide equal opportunities to the marginalized communities, and create more awareness on domestic violence.

Due to the corona lockdown, we invested some of our time in research on domestic violence, mental health, and oppression of the vulnerable. In India, domestic violence against females had increased from 60% to 110%. India has the highest population of youth around the world and it was left hopeless when young graduates found themselves jobless.

We realised that we need to create a safe space for the people to share their feelings and experiences after experiencing domestic violence or any other issue. One of our major plans for our project would be conducting webinars, reach out to people and provide mental health resources digitally.

The Journey

We started this project recently and are really grateful for the love that we are receiving everyday. We have provided mental health resources to young girls around the world via discord and had calls with them discussing about their mental health and how covid-19 has impacted their daily lives. It improved our communication skills a ton which helped us contact a lot of youth-led groups to either collaborate with or to support us. It garnered us skills which we never knew we would be able to accomplish.

A major challenge is carrying out each and everything completely virtually across the globe. We were not able to meet in person, hence developed a boundary to execute plans efficiently. We are trying our best to create content in the form of informative posts to post on our socials and of course, evolve ideas for future digital workshops and expand our socials so that more people get aware about this project.

The Next Chapter

We got an amazing opportunity to attend the GSL Catalyst @Home’21 and were really inspired to meet so many amazing teams around the world! We hope to collaborate with the teams and conduct workshops with the orphans and poor children around the world (once the pandemic ends), and donate self-help books so that the coming generation becomes the worthy asset of tomorrow!

We will definitely keep working hard on our plans and ideas to strengthen our group and grow from the knowledge gained from this experience so far alongside learning from fellow groups.
We genuinely encourage each and everyone interested in helping such projects out, to join and contribute to them. Use your individuality and talent to shine your opinions and thoughts!
