Guaimun World Changers

We are delighted to share a blog written by Guaimun Social Leaders, a team delivering a Global Goals project for the 2018-19 Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 620 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community.

Helping others comes from the inside, we have already started last year helping many students around Margarita Island, this is how we proof that we are not just doing these activities because we have to since we are partipating in GSL

Changing the world through education

Project Summary

Nowadays the education in Venezuela has decrease significantly, that is why we have decided to share with the community a little of our knowledge regarding diplomacy, negotiation, leadership and general knowledge about the world. In the development of Guayamuri Intercollegiate Model of the United Nations we have met a lot of people that want to be part of these models but do not have the people to teach them the necessary topics about this kind of activities, in order for us to help them we decided to choose particular schools around Margarita and and give lessons about leadership, MUN language, how to research properly, public speaking and many other things. We already started this project last year and we created a complete delegation that reached recognized models and achieve multiple recognitions, this is what we want to accomplish with all the schools and people which we focus our project, we also started giving lessons to the kids in elementary school.

Our Journey

Helping others comes from the inside, we have already started last year helping many students around Margarita Island, this is how we proof that we are not just doing these activities because we have to since we are partipating in GSL, we have also develop leadership skills and teamwork that are necessary for a human being, without this primordial knowledge we would not be able to help and teach other people about how to develop a delegation. We have learned that helping the other is really enriching and we can move forward and be an example for many students that want to change the world. Our biggest challenge would the lack of interest they show us, also talk with other schools to allow us to participate and let us be part of their academical activities, we will overcome it talking with them about the importance of this project and using leadership and negotiation skills that we have learned thanks to the models of the united nations.

The Next Chapter

We actually intend to involve people in high school level (people our age) to participate and also younger ones so this way they have to start with and have knowledge in the moment they start being a part of models of the united nations. We also want to teach that the knowledge we share with them is not just necessary for the models but also future opportunities in their lives. It is important to involve the youngest ones and catch their eyes so this way they can be exceptional when they grow up because of all the time and dedication they have put in this project.
