Finally in Contact

We are delighted to share a blog written by student Sofía Pulgarín Toro, from The Columbus School who is part of a team of students delivering a Global Goals project for the 2019-20 Global Goals Competition.

Their project is among over 957 social action projects currently running as part of the GSL movement and we are excited to be supporting them to design and lead positive social change in their community.

Our experience has been difficult, but there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Project Overview

Our group is called VGG, which stands for Visits for the Greater Good. The main objective of our project is to teach those children with fewer resources about English, math, reading and more. We have decided on this project because we thought that every child in the world deserves the opportunity for a better and successful life, and for that, you need an education.

Our Journey

So far, we have had a few inconveniences with our project, but all progress is progress. We have already started contact with multiple foundations and we have been communicating with them for when we should spend time and talk with the kids. Also, we have done some interviews to people and get feedback on our project, so we can revise our project plan. This plan involves reevaluating what subjects we’re going to teach them and specifically how we’ll do it. We have already chosen many activities and games for the kids, to make learning easier for them. We’ll establish a schedule which includes which days we’re going and for how long we’re going to be staying. We’ll also start implementing ways in which we can recollect resources for the materials we need. When we have it all set, we will start going to the foundation and act upon our plans.

The Next Chapter

Our next step is to go to a foundation so we can start our classes with the kids. We plan to do this every 2 weeks, giving them a packet so they can work in their skills and not forget what we’ve taught them. In future distances our plan is to educate as many kids as possible they have many skills, and are capable of defending themselves in the “outside world.”

The 2019-20 GSL Global Goals Competition is now open and runs until June 2020. If you belong to one of the 700+ teams of students currently delivering a social action project as part of the competition we would love to hear from you and feature your blog and project photos on our website to inspire others.
